I created these beach mason jars filled with stones, sand, and lavender, along with these super cool "under the sea" type terrariums using shells, drift wood, stones, and succulents. They were for the STK Rooftop in Meatpacking NYC. The best part about them is that they are super eco since the mason jars will last forever and the succulents can be changed out every few months:)

The demand for floral design classes in both NYC and LA is increasing more than ever now! People are just ga-ga over floral design, probably because it's so fun and you get to feel like a kid or an artist in that moment. I've been doing corporate classes for team-building and just for something fun as a treat for their staff. I've also began to teach at Brooklyn Brainery, which is an awesome little spot and has a million classes to chose from. My Intro and Wedding classes sold out in a jiffy. Some students in the wedding class were there because they couldn't get in the first one. I will be teaching regular classes there including Advanced, Wood Boxes, and Garden Baskets. I love inspiring people and this truly isn't work for me. I've gotten the nicest emails from students after each class, and it really makes it all worth it!
I absolutely love this color scheme. It is so elegant and classy while incorporating the colors we think of when we hear Santa Barbara. Carrie's wedding took place at the 5 star hotel Bacara; with it's sprawling views and gorgeous architecture, this is the venue of choice for those that want a creme de la creme wedding (no, they didn't pay me to write that;) I booked this wedding through my friend Stacey of Stacey Lynn Design. The couple lives in Seattle, and we had never met until the day of the wedding! Through an extensive phone consultation and numerous emails, we were able to nail down this look. They had a lot of small details for their guests including this Cigar Bar. The guests danced the night away to a live band. We used mini green hydrangea, calla lilies, cymbidium orchids, and tulips mainly.
Every time I watch a show on Netflix (eh-hem House of Cards), I then spend three times the amount of time researching the show, characters, and whatever else I click on in the black hole that is Wikipedia because lets face it, seeing what goes on behind the scenes is way more interesting.
Here's some photos snapped by my brother Matthew Cylinder, the extremely talented photographer that you should hire for anything you could possibly need photographed (your pet rat, proof that your roommate did in fact leave the dirty dishes in the sink, etc). I'm wearing Smythe and Krisa, which I got from my client and dear friends at the PR firm Bollare. I'm standing with Erin the publicist, from celebrations.com who is telling me very important things at 6am! There was a crafts service table, but if was for Anderson Cooper 360 (I'm being totally serious). For the wedding we will be adding in a lot more texture with dahlias and various other red flowers. The groom is in visual effects, and the couple wanted something that reflected their simple, modern style. We will be doing a mix of square and round tables with red details for the napkins. I love it!
A couple of weeks ago we contributed to a California wedding magazine editorial shoot. I was asked to find inspiration in something small, and I chose to do sepia photos. I have two of my grandparents on both sides, and love looking at them. Such a time in romance!
You'll find the inspiration below (not of my grandparents) and the bouquet we made.. I designed and Sine executed. My first choice were antique roses and chocolate cosmos, but both were unavailable, so she improvised and did a splendid job! The magazine comes out in the Spring! Oh, and the Hicksville shoot we did last spring will finally be out in Modele for their Valentine's issue:) Sweet!
Want to check out the photos from our VIP event? They're up!! Go to our Flour LA Facebook page and check out the entire album here. We had LA and OC's top mom bloggers come with their kids, and let me tell you, they had a blast!

While you're there, be sure to LIKE our page too! Three years ago I started Flour LA. While in its' infancy, I booked a Thanksgving job for a prominent architect who wanted something crazy. I used broken glass, test tubes, and sand. Maybe a little too out there, even for me. Looking back, I'd have fully covered the floral foam with moss, or shaved the foam down- something...anything... I thought my concept was right on, but could've been executed sharper.
Like my critique? It's because I'm watching Top Chef Seattle right now:) Time for turkey, tofurkey, or whatever strikes your fancy this time of year. While we've stopped our daily deliveries, we still do flowers for all holiday parties. So, if you're having a celebration at home or a restaurant, be sure to order your arrangements asap! Check out Flour LA and email [email protected] to place your holiday flowers order! All orders are custom-made to your specifications,
